How can I cite and reference course materials retrievable on Canvas?

Answer

Canvas is a password protected system. APA 7 allows for referencing of internally created course materials as the audience you are writing for e.g. your lecturer or guest marker will have access to the resource.

Here is an example regarding how to cite and reference a PowerPoint file retrievable on Canvas:

In-text citation: Manukau Institute of Technology (2019) ... OR ... (Manukau Institute of Technology, 2019).

Reference list entry:

Manukau Institute of Technology. (2019). Tikanga Mà„ori best practice [PowerPoint slides]. Canvas. https://canvas.manukau.ac.nz

Notes:

  • Always check with your lecturer for permission to use internally created course materials as sources of information for your Reference list.
  • Chapters of books, video clips, journal articles accessed on Canvas are referenced according to their source type.

For more information regarding citing and referencing course materials from Canvas you can check pp. 22-23 of the MIT APA Referencing Full Guide.
