In-text citation: What is the difference between narrative format and parenthetical format?

Answer

In narrative citation, the author appears in running text followed immediately by date in brackets.  For example: Armstrong (2019) pointed out that ....

In parenthetical citation, both the author and date, separated by a comma, appear in round brackets, generally at the end of a sentence. The full stop/period is put after the closing bracket. For example: .... (Armstrong, 2019).

You can use either (or both) format within the text of your assignment.
